The Story Behind ProChemical’s Founder
Texas has long battled some of the most unpredictable and damaging soils in the country. Few understood that better than Bob Horn, the man who turned a small idea into a groundbreaking method that changed how Texas builds.
In this exclusive podcast episode, Bob shares how decades in the dirt-moving business led him to pioneer electro-chemical soil injection, transforming how engineers and builders stabilize expansive clay soils.

From Earthmoving to Innovation
Before ProChemical, Bob spent over 20 years in excavation. He saw firsthand how Texas’ blackland clay caused projects to fail—heaving in wet seasons, cracking in dry ones, and breaking foundations built on unstable soil.
That frustration led to a revelation: what if we could fix the soil itself instead of constantly rebuilding above it?
Bob began testing early chemical treatments, often dismissed as “snake oil” by skeptics. For a decade, he ran experiments, refined dilution ratios, and partnered with engineers until labs began validating his results. The outcome was a consistent, measurable increase in soil stability and reduced swelling.
ProChemical’s Breakthrough Moment
One of Bob’s earliest successes came at Poly-America in Grand Prairie, Texas, where treated warehouse foundations resisted rutting and shifting even under heavy concrete truck traffic. That proof of concept launched ProChemical into large-scale commercial projects across Texas.
By the late 1990s, Bob’s team had moved from hand injection to hydraulically powered tractors capable of injecting thousands of square feet per day—laying the groundwork for what is now a standard in soil stabilization.
Why His Legacy Matters Today
Bob’s philosophy was simple: treat the cause, not the symptom. Instead of patching cracked foundations or lifting slabs, he taught that stability begins below the surface.
His son, Todd Horn, continues that mission as ProChemical’s COO, upholding the same values of integrity, quality, and engineering precision that defined his father’s career.
“The highest level of integrity is the key to maintaining and running a company.”

About ProChemical Soil Stabilization
Since 1992, ProChemical has led the industry in ionic soil stabilization, using advanced chemistry to neutralize clay’s polarity, stop swelling and shrinkage, and provide a permanent foundation solution. From major developments to residential builds, our mission remains the same: build on solid ground.
